Statement:
Manipulated History
With this project I'm taking famous idealized landscape work, and interjecting modern concepts and ideas dealing with pollution, mass consumerism, and other ways humans have intruded into the natural landscape. I decided to not use any of my own imagery in this project, using found images on google, the library of congress archive, and various museum websites. By doing so there is no way to avoid taking on issues of ownership and copyright of the art work, and the vast array of images available on the internet. The images can be seen on a more surface level as a warning of what may come to pass if we don't' change our attitudes towards the earth, but can also be read into deeper to issues of race, politics, and more conceptual ideas which i've already mentioned.
I've grown increasingly concerned and upset over what i've read in the news and see in my daily life related to what's happening with nature. Rain Forests are disappearing, species are going extinct, people are dying and starving, and there seems to be a majority of indifference to this. I hope to help change this with this series of work.
